1. Can my son/daughter work on a project with a friend?
No, the Interest Fair is meant to be a project that families can work on together at home. However, brothers/sisters are encouraged to enter the fair as a team!
2. Where can Interest Fair boards be purchased at?
Display Boards Can Be Purchased At:
Target
Walmart
Office Depot
The Learning Shop
.
3. We are having a difficult time deciding on an idea for the fair. What can we do?
First of all, check our school library--we have a lot of resources there. Next, check out the Neenah Public Library--they are also very helpful with these types of projects. An internet search of science fair projects will get you to many sites with possible project ideas. (Your project does not have to be a science-related one, though.)
4. Is any subject area okay for a project idea?
Yes, anything that is appropriate for school is just fine! Geography, crafts, history, authors, inventions, careers, hobbies, sports, etc. You name it!
5. How much help should I give my child?
First of all, make sure that your child chooses an idea that is truly interesting to him/her--that will be a motivator. If your child is very young (K-1), it is okay to type up the report. Always be sure that your child understands all of the material in the report/display. We do tell the evaluators that our fair is a Family Event and that families are encouraged to work together. Also, evaluators take age into consideration when they meet with the children. Most importantly. . . have fun!
6. Will we have a table to set up our project on?
Yes, everyone is given a table space. Please keep the size of your child’s project to about 3’ x 3’ and try to use space efficiently (table space for display items, front of table to hang a poster, etc.)
8. My child wants to display something that is valuable. Is it safe to display it?
We would be very careful. It would be best to make some type of a case or secure the object(s) being displayed. The gym (where the fair is held) is not locked. Otherwise, pictures are a good substitute for the "real" thing.
9. We won't be able to attend the fair that night. Will my child still receive a medal? Is there another time we can visit?
Yes, they certainly will receive their medal. You can make arrangements to pick up their project the next day from school.
